OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Shane Jett, R-Shawnee, has secured committee approval for four key measures.
Senate Bill 561 was approved by the Senate Agriculture and Wildlife Committee and provides that any person who raises quail for personal consumption or noncommercial purposes shall not be required to obtain a license.
“With this bill, we’re eliminating unnecessary barriers for Oklahomans who raise quail for eggs or meat,” Jett said. “By eliminating the license requirement for raising quail for personal consumption, the process becomes easier for producers and encourages the practice of growing and raising their own food.”
Senate Bill 777 was also approved by the Agriculture and Wildlife Committee. The bill authorizes the commercial harvest of wild fish in public waters for use in aquaculture by licensed persons.
“From creating jobs to preserving the paddlefish population, this legislation will create many opportunities for aquaculturists throughout our state,” Jett said. “My district is proud to be home to a remarkable veteran-owned business that is at the forefront of this field, and I’m eager to see the innovation that is fostered amongst this business and others upon the implementation of this legislation.”
The Senate Public Safety Committee approved Senate Bill 780, which creates a felony for any person found to have removed the United States flag on public or private property owned by another person or entity without permission and puts up the flag, standard, colors, or ensign of any other entity.
“Our flag is not only a symbol of our great nation, but an embodiment of the sacrifices made by those who fought to protect the freedoms it represents,” Jett said. “Senate Bill 780 ensures that the United States flag is protected from those aim to defile it by increasing the criminal punishment for such acts.”
The Local and County Government Committee approved Senate Bill 935, which creates the Citizen Access to County Facilities Act. The measure aims to ensure that residents and local organizations can utilize county facilities while minimizing the county’s liability.
“This legislation allows for local organizations to utilize county facilities, while also safeguarding the county from excessive liability,” Jett added. “It’s a win for communities across our state, providing them with greater access to essential resources while protecting the county’s interests.”
Senate Bills 561, 777, 780, and 935 are now eligible for consideration by the full Senate.
