The Oklahoma State Election Board unanimously voted Tuesday to appoint Sherron Manning as Secretary of the Beckham County Election Board. Sen. Darcy Jech congratulated Manning on her appointment and thanked Alex Joseph for his service.
“I want to congratulate Ms. Manning on her appointment. She has dedicated her life to helping Oklahoma’s youth as an educator and administrator, and now she’ll be able to utilize her talents and skills to help the citizens of Beckham County exercise their right to vote,” said Jech, R-Kingfisher. “I also want to thank Alex Joseph for his service to the county. Public service can be found in many forms but it’s important that we have individuals willing to step up when our state needs it. Both of these individuals are to be commended for their willingness to serve their state in this capacity.”
The Willow resident will serve until April 30, 2023. Manning’s career in education began at Altus Junior High and Erick High School where she taught science. She went on to become Director of Counseling and Assessment at the Sayre campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University before being named dean of the university. She holds a Masters of Education in School Counseling, a Bachelor’s of Science Education in Secondary Natural Science and an Associate of Science in General Studies from SWOSU.
Each of Oklahoma’s 77 counties has a three-member county election board compose of two political members and the secretary of the county election board, who serves as the at-large member. County election boards govern elections within their county for the State Election Board.
County election board secretaries serve as the chief administrative officer for their boards and supervises the precinct election boards within their county. They are responsible for supervising, defining employee job positions and responsibilities, preparing the annual budget, preparing and filing all reports and implementing any policy, findings and actions lawfully prescribed or determined by the board.
