Sen. Hicks honored for support of veterans

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City, said she was honored to be named Senator of the Year by the Oklahoma Veterans Council. Each year, the Senate and House meet in a special joint session to honor Oklahoma’s military veterans. Hicks was honored during the ceremony for her work supporting veterans, their families and the mission of the Oklahoma Veterans Council.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” Hicks said. “Our veterans are true heroes, and we know their service comes at tremendous personal sacrifice. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work on their behalf in the Oklahoma Senate, and I thank the Veterans Council for this award.”

During the first session of the 60th Legislature, Hicks was the principal author of Senate Bill 31, providing tuition assistance for Oklahoma Guard members enrolling in programs for licensure or certification through CareerTech. The measure received strong bipartisan support in both chambers and became law.

There are more than 275,000 military veterans who make their home in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Veterans Council’s mission is to represent all Oklahoma veterans and their families, advocating at the federal and state level on behalf of those who have served.
