Sen. Hicks comments on U.S. Supreme Court ruling blocking St. Isidore charter school

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Carri Hicks issued the following statement Thursday after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Oklahoma Supreme Courts’ ruling against what would have been the nation’s first publicly funded religious charter school.

“As a steadfast advocate for public education and the constitutional separation of church and state, I commend the U.S. Supreme Court's 4-4 decision that upholds Oklahoma's ruling against taxpayer-funded religious charter schools. This outcome reinforces the principle that public funds should not be used to support religious instruction, preserving the integrity of our public education system. While this decision maintains the current legal stance, I remain vigilant in protecting our public schools from future attempts to blur the lines between church and state.” – Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City.
