Sen. Dugger sworn in, begins second term in Oklahoma Senate

Sen. Tom Dugger takes oath of office.

State Sen. Tom Dugger, R-Stillwater, has officially begun his second term in the Oklahoma Senate.   Dugger was re-elected in the November general election to the Senate District 21 seat, representing Payne County.

Due to increased community spread of COVID-19 throughout the state, Dugger and other newly elected and returning members took the oath of office in small, socially-distanced groups in the Senate Chamber on Monday, with further restrictions on the number of guests and staff within the chamber.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to the people of Payne County for returning me to the State Senate to be their voice for another four years.  It’s an honor and a privilege, and I am humbled by your support,” Dugger said.  “Throughout our state’s history, we’ve been faced with significant challenges.  A hundred years ago, we’d just come through the deadly Spanish Flu pandemic.  This session, we’ll still be dealing with the effects of COVID and the impact on public health, the budget, and more.  But we will rise to the challenge—better days are ahead.  For now, there’s work to do, and preparations are already underway for the coming session.”

During his first term in the Senate, Dugger served as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for Select Agencies, and held seats on the full Appropriations Committee, Education, Agriculture and Wildlife, and General Government.

The Senate will gather for an organizational day on Jan. 5, and the 2021 session will formally begin on Feb. 1.
