Sen. Coleman named Majority Assistant Whip, tapped to lead Senate committees

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Bill Coleman will be serving in several new leadership roles for the 59^th Legislature. Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat appointed the Ponca City Republican to serve as a majority assistant whip and as chair of the Senate Business and Commerce Committee and vice chair of the Public Safety Committee.

“I want to thank Senate leadership and our caucus for their confidence in me. I look forward to further serving the best interests of the great folks of Senate District 10, as well as of all our fellow Oklahomans,” Coleman said. “Our state has been through so much in recent years but we’re stronger than ever, and I’m ready to get to work this session to keep our economy growing, attract more industries and professionals to our great state, improve public safety and ensure Oklahoma families have the best state services available to them.”

Coleman will also sit on the Retirement and Insurance and Rules Committees, along with the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and the newly created OMES/ARPA Oversight Committee. He will also continue his service as a presiding officer, as well as on the Tax Reform Working Group, the Caucus Agenda Committee, the Legislative Rural Caucus, and the Jim Thorpe Building Repair Oversight Committee.

As an assistant whip, he will be responsible for working with members of his caucus to answer questions about certain bills or issues, understand their positions on major issues, and keep leadership informed of those positions.  

The Senate will convene on Tuesday, Jan. 3 for an organizational day and the first session of the 59^th Legislature will begin on Monday, Feb. 6. To learn more about Sen.
