OKLAHOMA CITY – In a letter sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) this week, Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, expressed his formal opposition to a proposed generation facility in McCurtain County.
The proposed generating facility would consist of 66 inverters with a total generating capacity of 237.6 MW. The Generator Interconnection Agreement is a combined effort among the Southwest Power Pool, serving as the Transmission Provider; Crooked Creek Solar, LLC, serving as the Interconnection Customer; and AEP Oklahoma Transmission Company, serving as the Transmission Owner.
“My constituents in Southeast Oklahoma oppose this project near the Mountain Fork River and have real concerns about how the project has been developed thus far,” Burns said. “Throughout the development, there has been a lack of transparency, public notice and involvement of neighboring land owners.”
“There are also major concerns about how the construction and operation of such a facility would impact tourism, wildlife, and the natural beauty of the area, which are key features of our region, both for residents and tourists,” Burns added.
Burns urged FERC to join Southeastern Oklahomans and many others in rejecting the proposed facility in McCurtain County to ensure personal liberties and property rights are protected.
