Sen. Burns Applauds Senate Committee Confirmation of Carl Albert State College Regent Nominees

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, issued the following statement after the Senate Education Committee voted this week to confirm two of his executive nominations to the Carl Albert State College Board of Regents.

Former State Senator Mark Allen and financial advisor Lavon Williams both received committee approval and will now advance to the full Senate for final confirmation.

“I’m proud to have nominated two outstanding individuals who bring unique strengths and deep commitment to the future of Carl Albert State College and the students it serves,” Senator Burns said. “Their backgrounds in public service, business and community involvement make them exceptional choices for this important role. Both Mark and Lavon exemplify servant leadership and bring decades of experience that will benefit Carl Albert State College as it continues to grow and support workforce and academic development in our region.”

Mark Allen served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2010 to 2022, holding leadership positions including Chairman of the Energy Committee, Chairman of the Transportation Committee, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Tribal Relations, and Majority Whip. A U.S. Navy veteran, Allen also has extensive private-sector experience in the oilfield and construction industries.

Lavon Williams is an independent financial advisor and the owner of Asset and Investment Advisors, Inc. in Poteau. He is deeply involved in the local community through organizations such as the Poteau Rotary Club, City of Poteau Planning Commission, LeFlore County Development Coalition, and LeFlore County Child Advocacy Center.
