MCCURTAIN COUNTY — Senator George Burns (R-District 5) has announced that replacement signage has been installed along the Representative Rusty Farley Memorial Highway, restoring the designation honoring the late lawmaker’s service to southeastern Oklahoma.
The original memorial signs had been removed over time. Sen. Burns worked with the appropriate agencies to ensure the highway once again properly recognizes Rep. Farley and his legacy of public service.
"Rep. Rusty Farley was a fighter for his district and for rural Oklahoma," Burns said. "This memorial highway is about respect — respect for service, for sacrifice, and for the people he represented. When something like this disappears, it matters that we step up and make it right."
Farley served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives and was known for his strong advocacy on behalf of his constituents. The memorial highway designation was created to honor his life and commitment to public service.
Burns said maintaining memorials like this is about preserving Oklahoma’s history and ensuring future generations understand the men and women who helped shape their communities.
"These signs aren't about politics," Burns said. "They're about remembering who stood up for this part of the state and making sure that service isn't forgotten."
The replacement signs were installed February 12, 2026.
