Sen. Brown to Host ‘Honor and Remember’ Ceremony at Norman Veterans Center

This past session, Sen. Bill Brown authored legislation designating the “Honor and Remember Flag” as the State of Oklahoma’s emblem on behalf of the service and sacrifice of those who paid the ultimate price for their country. This Tuesday, September 28, Brown will be joined by George Lutz, the man who founded the national movement to honor fallen soldiers, at an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Norman Veterans Center. Family members of Oklahomans killed in action will attend the ceremony, as will Congresswoman Mary Fallin.

“George Lutz wanted to find some way to honor his son, Tony, who was killed while serving in Iraq five years ago. We have a nationally recognized flag to honor the memories of POW’s. George’s idea was to honor those killed in action with a new flag,” said Brown, R-Tulsa. “The result is the Honor and Remember Flag which will forever serve as a tribute to those Oklahomans who gave their lives fighting for freedom.”

Brown said he understood first-hand what it was like to lose a loved one in combat—his own father died fighting for his country in World War II. Brown said he was proud to join Lutz in his effort to have the Honor and Remember Flag officially recognized as a way of honoring the men and woman who died in service to their country.

“State after state has joined Oklahoma in declaring the Honor and Remember Flag to be the official symbol of their fallen soldiers. I’m honored that we’ll be joined by George Lutz, Congresswoman Fallin, and especially the families of Oklahoma soldiers lost in combat as we mark the adoption of this new flag as a symbol that declares to the world we will never forget.”
