Sen. Brooks invites public to celebrate swearing in of Rep. Cruz

OKLAHOMA CITY – Last week, Rep. Jose Cruz, D-Oklahoma City, took his official oath of office along with nearly 50 of his House colleagues in a socially distanced ceremony in the Capitol rotunda.

On Wednesday, Nov. 17, Sen. Michael Brooks, D-Oklahoma City, is hosting a special celebration at 11:00 a.m. on the South Plaza in honor of Cruz’ victory.  The public event is open to all constituents of House District 89 and Senate District 44.

“This is a historic victory for south Oklahoma City, and we want to invite our constituents to come celebrate with us at the Capitol.  For the first time in state history, both districts are represented by Latinos, which will help better represent the voice and needs of the Latino community at the state Capitol,” Brooks said.  “We were unable to launch the Legislative Latino Caucus this year because of COVID but will be starting this important caucus next session. I’ve worked closely with Jose in the community for years and am thrilled to welcome him to the legislature and into our caucus to help further address the business, health care, educational and other special needs of our community.”

Masks will be required for the event and social distancing protocols will be followed.  A taco truck will be available for lunch.
