OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, issued the following statement on her decision not to attend the 2025 State of the State address on Monday.
“Today, I stood in solidarity with the Oklahoma Legislative Latino Caucus to elevate our founding value of welcoming ‘huddled masses yearning to breathe free,’ and ask our governor to provide fair and humane treatment for our beloved immigrant and refugee neighbors, classmates, parishioners, family members, and co-workers.
“Many Oklahomans profess to follow the teachings of Jesus, and are devoted to recognizing the inherent dignity of each person, and stand in firm solidarity with our immigrant and refugee neighbors. They continue to provide every Oklahoman food, health care, safe roads, homes and buildings that support our prosperous state.
“Our country deserves an immigration system that fairly offers a legal way to full citizenship for immigrants and refugees, provides permanent relief for childhood arrivals, and helps families stay together. Every person who honors human life should reject wholeheartedly any narrative that dehumanizes groups of people and refuses to honor their dignity.
“Given the alarming rhetoric emanating from the Stitt administration, this year I listened outside of the chamber and removed my participation as a compliant audience member.” – Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman.
