Sen. Boggs takes oath, begins legislative service

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Larry Boggs was formally sworn in for his first term at the State Capitol on Wednesday.  The Republican from Red Oak was elected to serve Senate District 7. 

            "It is a tremendous honor to be entrusted to represent the people of District 7," said Boggs.  "It is a privilege and a responsibility I will never take for granted as I work with my constituents and fellow legislators to move Oklahoma forward."

            As a Senator, Boggs will focus on job creation through securing new industries for southeast Oklahoma and assist existing businesses expand.  He will protect rural schools from Oklahoma City's "one size fits all" mandates and wants to make certain citizens in southeast Oklahoma have a strong voice at the table when decisions regarding the state's water and natural resources are being determined. 

            Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman said he was looking forward to working with Sen. Boggs in the 2013 session. 

            “Senator Boggs represents the core values that have made Oklahoma great.  I know he will be a strong voice on behalf of District 7 in the State Senate,” said Bingman, R-Sapulpa.

            Larry and his wife, Karla, have one daughter and three grandchildren.  The Boggs operate Rockland at Eagle's Rest, and also are the founders of Eagles Rest Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization focused on protecting and providing for nesting American Bald Eagles.  The family also runs a cattle operation and raise horses.

            The Legislature will convene for an organizational meeting on Tuesday, January 8 and will convene the 1st Session of the 54th Legislature on Monday, February 4.  Live streaming audio and video will be available on the Senate website at www.oksenate.gov.
