Sen. Bice to hold two leadership posts in the upcoming Legislature

State Sen. Stephanie Bice will hold two top leadership posts in the 57th Legislature.  Bice will serve as chair of the Senate Finance Committee.  She is only the second woman to serve as chair and the first Republican woman to head that committee.  Bice will also continue her role as Assistant Floor Leader.  First named to that leadership position in 2016, she is the first Republican woman to serve in that post and only the second woman to do so since statehood.

“I’m truly honored to continue as Assistant Floor Leader and to serve as Chair of Finance.  The Finance Committee is essential to the fiscal stability of this state.  We’ve seen critical legislation come through this committee in recent sessions that has resulted in righting Oklahoma’s economic course, strengthening our budget and modifying or eliminating tax preferences that simply did not perform as projected,” said Bice, R-Oklahoma City.  “We’re headed in the right direction—my job will be to make sure we stay the course and build on our successes.”

As Assistant Floor Leader, Bice is regularly called upon to run the day-to-day business of the Senate, ensuring bills and other presentations are addressed in an orderly manner and in accordance with all Senate rules. She also is among a select group of members to preside over the Senate throughout the session.

In addition to her leadership positions, Bice will also serve on the Senate Public Safety Committee, the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Transportation, and the Business, Commerce and Tourism Committee.

The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 8 and will reconvene for the 2019 session on February 4.
