Sen. Bergstrom attends ribbon cutting ceremony at new veterans’ complex

State Senator Micheal Bergstrom attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA) Vezey Veterans Complex in Oklahoma City last week.  The new facility is named in honor of the last survivor of the USS Oklahoma, Lieutenant Commander Edward Earl Vezey, Jr., as well as the 429 service members who died on the USS Oklahoma when it sunk on December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.   

The newly renovated location at 2132 NE 36th St. was originally built in the 1930’s and once housed the OSBI crime lab, before it became home to ODVA in 1976.   The two year renovation effort was funded by the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES), which is the agency that owns the building.

“The new Vezey Veterans Complex is a great way to honor these two heroes,” said Bergstrom, R- Adair.  “It is an outstanding facility which will help us better serve our state’s veterans.”

Vezey’s family was in attendance at the ceremony, as well as the family of Colonel Albert M. Willoughby, for whom a room in the new Vezey Veterans Complex has been named.
