OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Legislative Latino Caucus invites the public to attend the 10th annual Hispanic Cultural Day at the state Capitol on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Sen. Michael Brooks, Latino Caucus chair, said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Our Shared History.”
“My own family was among the Hispanics who arrived after statehood primarily to help build the railroads. The next generation included some of the first Oklahomans to sign up to defend the United States in World War II. Since then, generation after generation has continued to contribute to our communities and state. Whether they have been here for decades or more recently, it is important to recognize these contributions as an integral part of the fabric of Oklahoma.”
The event will be held on the second floor of the Capitol and will feature art, music, dancing, food tastings, exhibitor booths, speakers and more. Hispanic Cultural Day will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning and conclude at 2 p.m.
“Join us at the Capitol as we celebrate the heritage, traditions, and lasting contributions of Hispanic communities,” said Rep. Annie Menz, D-Norman. “Our community is not only a big part of Oklahoma history – we continue to help shape the future.”
“Our Latino and Hispanic community in Oklahoma is strong. As a proud son of immigrant parents from Mexico, I am always inspired by the footprint our community has made in this state. Latinos have helped shape so many aspects of what makes Oklahoma great,” said Rep. Arturo Alonso-Sandoval, D-Oklahoma City. “Though we have experienced challenging times, I am honored to celebrate the culture, the contributions, and the growing voice of Latinos across our state.”
