OKLAHOMA CITY - Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, today commended his Senate colleagues after they voted to pass Senate Bill 1330 off the Senate floor.
Senate Bill 1330 establishes the Oklahoma City National Memorial Education Revolving Fund. The legislation aims to commemorate the legacy of those that perished, and those lives forever changed by the tragic events of April 19, 1995, and promote educational initiatives in their honor in schools across the state.
“This legislation is important to preserving the memory of the Oklahoma City Bombing tragedy and its lasting impact on Oklahoma and the nation,” Pro Tem Treat said. "By establishing the Oklahoma City National Memorial Education Revolving Fund, we are ensuring that future generations will learn more about this pivotal moment in our history, the resilience of the Oklahoma spirit and how we came together in the face of an unimaginable tragedy to emerge stronger. I appreciate my fellow Senators for their support, and I look forward to this becoming law.”
Under the provisions of Senate Bill 1330, the Oklahoma City National Memorial Education Revolving Fund will provide $1.5 million to supporting educational programs and initiatives that raise awareness about the Oklahoma City bombing and its impact on the nation. It will further develop curriculum, educational materials and outreach programs that teach about one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in American history.
The bill will now go to the House of Representatives for consideration. The legislation’s House author is Speaker Charles McCall.
