Painting Marking Bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase Dedicated

Senator Charles Ford announced the dedication of another original painting commissioned by the Oklahoma State Senate Historical Preservation Fund, Inc. The painting, titled “Transfer of the Louisiana Purchase-1803” by nationally renowned artist Mike Wimmer of Norman, was unveiled during a ceremony in the Senate Chamber this afternoon. Senator Ford noted 2003 marks the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase, a key event in Oklahoma and American history.

“This piece is a great reminder of our rich history. Oklahoma was the last of the thirteen states carved out of the Lousiana Purchase. This work of art, like many others, helps open a window to our past,” explained Senator Ford, President of the Senate Historical Preservation Fund, Inc.

The painting is a gift of Henry and Jane Primeaux of Tulsa. The Primeauxs own a Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep Dealership in Bristow, Oklahoma that they run with the help of their three children, Joann Primeaux Longa, Lisa Primeaux Lotz and Henry Joseph Primeaux. The family has distinguished themselves in Tulsa through their philanthropic giving and service to numerous organizations in the area.

“Henry and Jane Primeaux’s gift will serve as a testament to those who visit us of our rich and diverse heritage,” noted Senator Ford.
