A Weekly Update on all of the Good News about Oklahoma
Because much of the good news about our state is sometimes overlooked by state leaders and others, many positive developments and success stories in Oklahoma go unreported. It is our hope that "Oklahoma Pride," a weekly publication of the Oklahoma Senate, will ensure that the best stories about Oklahoma are told.
For example, this week in Oklahoma, did you know that......
Just when it looked like unemployment rates couldn't get any lower, they did. After falling to near record levels in March, the state jobless rate crashed through the floor in April. Statewide, the unemployment average settled at just 3.3 percent compared to a national rate of almost 5 percent!
Things were even more impressive in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The state capital finished with an unemployment rate of 2.6 percent, Tulsa with 2.8 percent. Around the state, 75 of Oklahoma's 77 counties recorded lower jobless rates than the same period last year.
In recent years, we had optimistically set our sights on achieving employment rates comparable to the oil boom. We should be proud we have reached that goal and even surpassed it in some areas.
