A Weekly Update on all of the Good News about Oklahoma
Because much of the good news about our state is sometimes overlooked by state leaders and others, many positive developments and success stories in Oklahoma go unreported. It is our hope that "Oklahoma Pride," a weekly publication of the Oklahoma Senate, will ensure that the best stories about Oklahoma are told.
For example, this week in Oklahoma, did you know that......
Thanks to Oklahoma's growing economy, there will be more money to spend on education, transportation, public safety and other state services this year. The State Equalization Board raised its budget estimate by $67 million this week, bringing Oklahoma's total amount of growth revenue this year to $284 million. The estimate is raised when the economy grows faster than the budget experts predicted it would.
That wasn't the only good news this week! According to a new report from the Department of Commerce, new and expanding companies announced more than $154 million in Oklahoma investments in 1996. The result is an estimated 7,500 new jobs in the next three years and 9,100 new jobs over the lifetime of the projects.
Economists at the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, meanwhile, reported that indicators of manufacturing activity in Oklahoma continue to signal expansion over the next six months. That means more jobs and more opportunities for our people.
