Oklahoma Farm Bureau honors Sen. Mary Boren

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, was recently given the Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Friend of the Farm Award for her work in defending private property rights through advocating for reforming and limiting the use of eminent domain during the 2025 legislative session.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Friend of the Farm Award. Protecting private property rights is fundamental to the strength and stability of our rural communities,” Boren said. “I remain committed to reforming the use of eminent domain so that landowners are treated with fairness and respect,” Boren said.

Boren was one of only seven legislators honored during the organization’s 84^th annual meeting for their commitment to agriculture and Oklahoma’s rural communities for exemplary advocacy, going above and beyond for the state’s farmers and ranchers.

“Our rural heritage is worth defending, and I’m proud to stand with the Oklahomans who protect it every day,” Boren said.

A member of the Senate’s Energy Committee, Boren held an interim study this fall to present information on how farmers and ranchers can utilize agrivoltaics, an emerging and practical land-use strategy combining farming and ranching with solar energy, maximizing land use and providing a reliable income to sustain economic ups and downs in agriculture.

“Food production and energy production both depend on respecting the rights of the Oklahomans who steward their land. By safeguarding landowners' rights, we protect the economic security of Oklahoma and strengthen the foundation that feeds and powers our state,” Boren said.
