OKLAHOMA CITY — A bill giving Oklahoma dairy producers more freedom to sell raw milk has been signed into law.
Senate Bill 2028, introduced by Sen. Jonathan Wingard, R-Ada, and Rep. David Hardin, R-Stilwell, allows dairy producers to advertise the sale of raw milk on their farms. It also raises the monthly sales cap, enabling producers to sell up to 1,500 gallons of raw milk per month.
Wingard said the bill expands opportunities for direct-to-consumer raw milk sales as demand for the product continues to grow.
“Under this new law, we’re trusting Oklahomans to make their own informed decisions without government getting in the way,” Wingard said. “This will make it easier for consumers to find and support local dairies that sell raw milk. Small family farms are the lifeblood of rural Oklahoma. Raising the sales limit on raw milk and legalizing advertising of this particular product gives consumers the freedom to make their own dietary choices while providing new opportunities for dairy producers to expand their homegrown businesses.”
SB 2028 took effect immediately upon the governor’s signature.
"This measure came from conversations with Oklahomans who wanted the freedom to buy and sell raw milk without unnecessary government interference while still making sure people have clear information about the product," Hardin said. "I appreciate Sen. Wingard’s partnership and the work he put in to help get this across the finish line."
