Murdock Bill Banning State Contracts with Anti-Gun Companies Signed by Governor

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Casey Murdock, R-Felt, commented today on the governor signing Senate Bill 500, which prohibits the state from contracting with companies that discriminate against firearm businesses or firearm trade associations.

Murdock has championed this key Second Amendment reform since 2022.

“Oklahoma proudly defends the Second Amendment and the businesses that support it,” Murdock said. “Some of the nation’s largest banks have turned their backs on gun manufacturers and firearms retailers. We shouldn’t be rewarding these woke institutions with taxpayer-funded state contracts when they’ve made it clear they don’t share our values.”

Rep. Kevin West, R-Moore, is the principal House author of SB 500.

"Oklahomans overwhelmingly value the right to bear arms, and our state benefits greatly from the firearms industry," West said. "This measure protects our vital interests and ensures the state will not do business with companies that choose to discriminate against this industry."

SB 500 prohibits state governmental entities from entering into a contract with a company unless the contract contains written verification that the company does not have a practice, policy or directive that discriminates against a firearm entity or related trade association. This measure does not apply to small businesses valued at less than $100,000 with fewer than 10 employees.

This new law takes effect Nov. 1, 2025.
