The Oklahoma State Legislature on Wednesday honored an Oklahoma family-owned and -operated company that has been putting smiles on Oklahomans’ and others’ faces for the past 40 years. Sen. Ron Justice and Rep. Susan Winchester introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution 85 congratulating Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores on their 40th anniversary and designating April 30, 2008 as "Braum's Day" at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
"This is an industry that we’re extremely proud of in Oklahoma. It’s an industry that is truly a Made in Oklahoma product. Braum’s growth is very important to our state and our economy,” said Justice, R-Chickasha. "The quality product is what our state is all about, and the Braum’s family has certainly accomplished that."
Bill and Mary Braum built their first store in Oklahoma City in March 1968 and built 23 more stores throughout Oklahoma City and Tulsa that same year. Today, there are 275 Braum's stores located in five states - Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas. Braum's employs nearly 4,400 full- and part-time employees in Oklahoma alone and 4,200 in the other four states.
"We’re proud to recognize Braum’s on their 40th Anniversary,” said Winchester, R-Chickasha. “I want to thank Braum’s for all of the hard work they do and for all the business they bring to Oklahoma. Their commitment to our state and communities with their continual business growth supports Oklahoma families with good jobs. They truly are an example of what we do as an outstanding state.”
Members of the Braum’s family including Bill and Mary Braum’s son Drew Braum were on the Senate floor along with Millie the Cow for the resolution ceremony.
“We’re very proud to be in Oklahoma and it’s been a good state to us,” said Drew Braum “Thank you very much for everything.”
As part of the special day at the Capitol, Braum's shared with workers and visitors at the Capitol its line of new ice cream flavors including White Chocolate raspberry Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Pretzel, Brownie Batter, Bread Pudding, Chocolate Mojito, Coffee Bean, Sicilian Orange and Lemon Sherbet.
Braum's continues to expand and use new technologies to provide the best products to its customers. This year, construction began on a new state-of-the-art 80,000 square-foot bakery production facility on the family farm in Tuttle. Braum's prides itself for baking all of its own fresh bakery items including ice cream cones, muffins, cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, breads, and hamburger buns.
