OKLAHOMA CITY – State Sen. Bill Coleman, R-Ponca City, and Rep. Ken Luttrell, R-Ponca City, will host a redistricting town hall meeting in Ponca City on Thursday, Jan. 14. The public meeting will allow citizens in northern counties, including Osage and Kay, to learn about Oklahoma’s redistricting process, ask questions and share their input.
“This is a historic process that will impact Oklahomans’ representation at both the state and federal level for the next 10 years,” Coleman said. “It’s important that citizens be a part of the process and help us as we begin redrawing state House and Senate district lines as well as congressional boundaries to fairly and equally represent Oklahoma’s population.”
The meeting will take place in the Summit Room of the City Central Building at 6:00 p.m. Guests in attendance are asked to observe social distancing and other health protocols as required by the facility. The meeting will also be livestreamed online at www.oksenate.gov and archived for future viewing.
“Ours is a representative government, and census population counts play a vital role in protecting that system,” said Luttrell. “Our state’s population has grown and shifted in many areas and these public meetings are the first step in ensuring that all Oklahomans have fair and equal representation under our government. I hope citizens will take the time to join us in this important conversation either by attending these meetings or sharing their ideas online.”
The meeting will include an overview of the legislative redistricting process and guests will be allowed to ask questions and share their ideas on the process as well. Comments on redistricting can also be submitted by emailing the Senate at redistricting@oksenate.gov.
