OKLAHOMA CITY – Newly elected Senator Julia Kirt was selected to serve on four Senate committees for the 57th legislature by Senate Democratic Leader Designate Kay Floyd.
The Oklahoma City Democrat was appointed to serve on the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, as well as the Finance and Rules Committees. She will also serve on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services.
“I am honored to have been selected by Senator Floyd to serve in these committee memberships,” Kirt said. “Many of my constituents voiced concerns about the finances and administration of state services. Through these committees, I am pleased to be part of the leadership and accountability for many important policy areas. I am focused on making my first year in office productive for Oklahoma, as well as representing and serving the people of Senate District 30.”
Kirt was elected to the Senate late last year and was sworn into office on November 14. She represents northwest Oklahoma County, which includes parts of Oklahoma City, Bethany, Warr Acres and The Village. Before her election to the Senate, Kirt most recently served as the Executive Director of Oklahomans for the Arts. Among other community leadership, she serves as a Board Member for the Downtown Strategic Initiatives, a Task Force member for Read OKC and Advisory Board member for the All Access Arts program.
Members will return to the Capitol for an organizational day on January 8, 2019, and the 2019 session will formally begin on February 4.
