OKLAHOMA CITY - Sen. Shane Jett, R-Shawnee, issued the following statement Monday in response to Pottawatomie County being approved for federal disaster assistance.
“We greatly appreciate the White House’s swift approval of this critical federal assistance as the citizens of Shawnee and surrounding areas work to put their lives and businesses back together. Work has been ongoing since Wednesday night to help victims and assess damage. Knowing that they can now apply for FEMA assistance to rebuild or repair their homes and businesses will provide much-needed peace for those who suffered loss during these horrific storms.
“I strongly encourage local residents who sustained damage to apply for this disaster aid as soon as possible. My office continues to be available for anyone needing help securing basic necessities, such as food, clothing, or temporary housing, along with applying for this federal assistance. Our hearts and prayers continue to be with our neighbors as they work through this disaster. I also want to thank all of the first responders, local, state, and federal officials, and the many volunteers who have come to our county’s aid during this difficult time. It has been heartwarming to witness such generosity and compassion.”
Individuals can apply for disaster assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or visiting www.disasterassistance.gov. Funding may be used for housing repairs, temporary housing, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest loans for individuals and businesses to repair or rebuild damaged property, and grants for necessary disaster expenses not covered by other programs.
