OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Brent Howard has been appointed chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary as well as vice chairman of the Senate Finance Committee for the 58th Legislature.
“I’m honored to have been appointed to help lead these two important committees. Public safety is one of the core services of government. Whether you are talking about the Highway Patrol, the State Bureau of Investigation or the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, the mission of each of these agencies is essential to protecting law abiding citizens," Howard said. "The Finance committee is important because it considers legislation impacting or modifying Oklahoma’s tax code, which touches every area of Oklahoma’s economy.”
The Public Safety Appropriations Subcommittee oversees and determines the budgets of 16 agencies, boards and the state’s judicial branch. Together, these entities’ budgets total just over $876 million.
The Altus Republican will also sit on the full Appropriations, Agriculture and General Government Committees.
Session will kick off on Monday, Feb. 1, following an organizational day on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
