Hamilton takes oath, begins first senate term

Warren Hamilton is now the Senator for Senate District 7 after taking the official oath of office on Monday in a ceremony that was substantially scaled down from previous years to adhere with COVID-19 safety protocols and ongoing Capitol construction projects.

The McCurtain Republican joined the Army in 1989 and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.  He flew helicopters for both the Army and the Marine Corps until he fulfilled his service obligation in 2005.  Hamilton returned to Iraq in 2006 where he flew helicopters as a contractor in support of coalition efforts in the Middle East until he finally came home to his ranch and family in 2012. Hamilton, along with his wife, Sherrie, own and operate Rocky Point Ranch.  

The first Senator in state history from McCurtain, Hamilton strongly believes in a limited role of government, and his number one issue is ending abortion in the state. He has promised  to author a bill that would end abortion in Oklahoma. He also plans to focus on Second Amendment rights, agricultural and rural business issues.

“I’m humbled by those who voted to entrust me to be their voice in Oklahoma City at our state Capitol,” Hamilton said. “I’m ready to stand up for our rural Oklahoma values and will unashamedly and aggressively fight to protect our God given rights enumerated in the U.S. Constitution. May God bless America.”

The Senate will hold a one-day organizational meeting on Jan. 5 and will begin the 2021 legislative session on Feb. 1.
