Hamilton named Freshman Senator of the Year by Oklahoma Second Amendment Association
Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, was presented with the Freshman Senator of the Year Award on Friday, Dec. 10, by OK2A President, Don Spencer, for authoring the Second Amendment Sanctuary State Act and supporting other legislation to protect Oklahomans’ right to keep and bear arms.
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Second Amendment Association (OK2A) recently awarded Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, with the Freshman Senator of the Year Award. OK2A President, Don Spencer, said the award is given in appreciation to the legislator who was the most aggressive defender of Oklahomans’ God-given right to self-preservation, authoring and advancing legislation that supports the U.S. Constitution and Oklahomans’ Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Hamilton was the principal Senate author of Senate Bill 631 during the 2021 legislative session, making Oklahoma a Second Amendment Sanctuary State.
“The real reward is to serve with true patriots like the great Americans in OK2A, and House author Rep. Sean Roberts. While I authored the Second Amendment Sanctuary State Act, it was a team effort that was long overdue,” Hamilton said. “This law ensures that you’ll always be able to legally possess the firearms and related items you can now. Our government is not going to restrict firearms, ammunition, optics, or anything related to the employment of our firearms. It’s vital that we safeguard ammunition, optics, and reloading components since those are backdoor ways communists use to disarm a free and law-abiding citizenry.”
Hamilton has introduced an amendment to his bill for the 2022 session, stating that not only will Oklahoma not restrict firearms, but under the authority the states have under the Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, Oklahoma will not allow any federal agency to do so either.
“We need to make our gun laws less restrictive, not more,” Hamilton said. “In the words of the late Charlton Heston, former NRA president, ‘you can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead hands.’”
The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
