OKLAHOMA CITY – Pastors Jacob Sheriff and Zach Backues of Victory Life Church in Durant served as chaplains for the state Senate during the second week of the legislative session.

The pastors were sponsored by Sen. David Bullard, R-Durant. Sheriff is the Senior Lead Pastor of Victory Life, and led the Senate in prayer before the daily floor sessions on Monday and Wednesday as well as provided a short devotional before the close of the legislative week on Thursday.  He and his wife of 13 years, Hannah, have five children. Sheriff has a passion to see people transformed by Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit and intentional discipleship practices.

"Having these two wonderful men of God come share the Word and pray over our legislative work was such a blessing. The Senate deeply appreciates Pastor Sheriff's and Backues’ spiritual guidance and wisdom as we tackle difficult issues and work our way legislatively through this pandemic," said Bullard.  "The Senate is thankful for their service, and their continued prayers for the Legislature and our state are greatly appreciated."

Backues, the Campus Lead Pastor for Victory Life, prayed before the Tuesday floor session. He and his wife, Serena, have been married for 10 years and have five children. The Backues are passionate about cultivating environments of love and freedom where people can experience the Father heart of God.
