Dr. Randy Grellner takes Senate oath of office

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Randy “Doc” Grellner, R-Cushing, was sworn into the Oklahoma Senate on Wednesday. Grellner took his oath of office in the Senate chamber in a ceremony led by Sen. Brent Howard, the chamber’s chief presiding officer. Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice M. John Kane IV administered the oath of office as Grellner’s family and friends watched.

Grellner was one of 14 new senators sworn in on Wednesday. He represents Senate District 21, which includes parts of Payne and Creek counties, and succeeds Sen. Tom Dugger, who opted not to seek reelection. Altogether, 26 senators, including those returning for new terms, took the oath of office Wednesday.

Grellner is a primary care doctor in Cushing who operates his own medical practice. He is a Doctor of Osteopathy and a graduate of Oklahoma State University. He grew up on a family farm in eastern Kingfisher County and remains active in farming and ranching. He has been married to his wife, Shelley, for over 34 years, and they have two sons.

“I’ve spent my entire career diagnosing medical problems and providing care to Oklahomans when they need it most,” Grellner said. “Now, I’m ready to bring that same problem-solving approach to the state Senate. From improving health outcomes to reinvesting in rural communities and growing our agriculture, oil and natural gas industries, I can’t wait to prescribe the right policies to move Senate District 21 — and the state of Oklahoma — forward.”

Grellner will officially take office on Nov. 20.

The 60th session of the Oklahoma Legislature begins on Jan. 7, when both chambers will gavel in for an organizational day to elect leaders and adopt legislative rules. The full, four-month legislative session will start on Feb. 3.
