OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Jo Anna Dossett, D-Tulsa, announced Wednesday that her Senate Bills 50 and 176 will soon take effect on November 1, offering Oklahomans increased access to gun safes and contraceptive pills.
SB 50 creates a state sales tax exemption on the purchase of any gun safe or safety device.
SB 176 requires health insurance companies that already cover contraceptive pills to cover a six-month supply of them at one time. This increase in coverage will not affect anyone’s insurance premiums and will allow women to visit the pharmacy less frequently for the medication supply they need.
“It was an honor to carry these two bills in the 2025 legislative session, and I’m indebted to many Republican and Democratic colleagues who helped improve both bills from their introduced versions into the bipartisan statute we’ll see go into effect on November 1,” Dossett said.
“These bills relieve real burdens that everyday Oklahomans carry. Now, when you buy a gun safe, you’ll keep some of your own money in your pocket. And now, when you decide on and commit to taking your contraceptive every day, you can get a longer supply of it,” she continued.
