Daniels takes oath, begins first senate term

Julie Daniels is now officially on the job as State Senator for District 29.  The Bartlesville Republican was sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol on Wednesday as friends, family and other supporters looked on from the Senate gallery.

“I am extremely grateful to my friends, neighbors and fellow citizens for entrusting me to serve them in the Senate,” Daniels said.  “I do not take that trust for granted.  I will work diligently to be a good steward of public resources, put taxpayers first, champion public policy that creates new jobs and reduces regulations, support legislation that ensures our schools better meet the needs of students and their families and reallocate funding to improve teacher pay.”

A graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa College of Law, Daniels and her husband, Charlie, raised their two sons in Bartlesville, their home for 27 years.  Daniels is a former city council member and mayor of the city and has been active in many organizations at the state and local level, including the Boys & Girls Club of Bartlesville, the Leadership Oklahoma Executive Committee, the Oklahoma Centennial Commemoration Commission and recently completed a four-year term on the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Commission.  Daniels also worked on regional water supply issues while serving on the Bartlesville City Council, and participated in the public phase of the 2012 state water plan.

Senate President Pro Tempore-designate Mike Schulz said he was looking forward to working with Daniels in the 2017 session.

“Senator Daniels will be a strong voice on behalf of District 29 in the State Senate. Her experience will be a valuable asset to our caucus as we work to build a stronger and more prosperous Oklahoma,” said Schulz, R-Altus.

The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 3, and the 2017 session will formally get underway on February 6.
