Annual Walk is set to Begin at 10:00 AM This Saturday, October 13th
Claremore Senator Sean Burrage who is serving as this year’s honorary legislative chairman of the “Step Out to Fight Diabetes” walk, wants to encourage Oklahomans to come to LaFortune Park in Tulsa this coming Saturday, October 13th to participate in this year’s walk. Burrage said registration starts at 9:00 AM and the walk will begin at 10: 00 AM.
The Senator said the walk’s mission is aimed at raising awareness and raising private funds to help aide research efforts for the disease that affects more than 20.8 million Americans, roughly seven percent of the US population. In Oklahoma the disease affects roughly 300,000 children and adults.
“In our effort to make healthcare more affordable for all Oklahomans one of the first steps is to reduce chronic diseases such as diabetes,” Burrage said. “Diabetes is the fastest growing disease in the country—and it’s a disease that is often times preventable.”
Burrage said he is honored to serve as this year’s honorary legislative chair for “Step Out to Fight Diabetes” walk.
“Step out to fight diabetes is about changing the face of this disease in our state and around the United States by raising funds and awareness to help find a cure for diabetes,” Burrage said. “The people who are stepping out to help find a cure for diabetes are stronger than the disease and together we can make a difference.”
Burrage said he urges those wishing to participate in Saturday’s walk in Tulsa to register as a team captain or a walker by calling the local American Diabetes Association office at 1-888-DIABETES ext. 6036. Burrage also said additional information can be found on the Web at www.diabetes.org.
“We must all do our part to help wipe out diabetes so that Oklahomans can lead health productive lives.” Burrage concluded.
