OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, has introduced Senate Bill 365, a measure that expands the authority of the State Board of Education to regulate the certification process for head coaches in Oklahoma’s public schools.
Under SB 365, the board would promulgate the rules governing both the issuance and revocation of certificates for head coaches, increasing accountability and ensuring quality leadership in athletic programs.
“SB 365 is a step toward ensuring that our school athletic programs are led by qualified professionals who are committed to the safety and development of our students,” Burns said. “This legislation will help to uphold the integrity of our sports programs and ensure that every student receives the guidance and mentorship they deserve.”
The bill also defines the term “head coach” as the lead individual employed by a school district who is responsible for supervising and instructing students participating in a specific athletic activity.
SB 365 is available for consideration.
