OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, has introduced Senate Bill 1252 aimed at changing the management and operation of Hugo Lake Park. The proposed legislation seeks to transfer all properties currently held for Hugo Lake Park to the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department by January 1, 2025. This move is designed to make Hugo Lake an official state park and streamline management responsibilities to improve the overall visitor experience at the park.
Additionally, the bill specifies that the Department shall not be held responsible for any claims arising under The Governmental Tort Claims Act that accrued prior to January 1, 2025. However, the Department will succeed to any contractual rights and responsibilities of the previous operators, ensuring a smooth and efficient transfer process.
“Transferring the properties to the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department will streamline operations and pave the way for improved visitor amenities and recreational opportunities at Hugo Lake Park,” Burns said. “This bill is a vital step towards ensuring the long-term sustainability and enjoyment of this cherished recreational area.”
Hugo Lake Park is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a wide range of recreational activities such as boating, fishing, hiking, and camping.
SB 1252 is available to be considered.
