Brooks to continue serving as Senate Democratic Caucus vice chair

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Michael Brooks, D-Oklahoma City, will continue serving as the Senate Democratic Caucus vice chair during the 58th Legislature. Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd, D-Oklahoma City, made the announcement during Tuesday’s legislative organizational day.

“I want to thank Leader Floyd and my colleagues for their continued trust to help lead our caucus in this capacity,” Brooks said. “We are a small caucus but the ideas, concerns and needs of our constituents still must be heard. As we face yet another challenging budget year in the midst of the pandemic, we must not lose sight of the many important issues that need addressing to help Oklahoma families and business owners. When we support and lift our citizens, we help improve our state’s economy and make life better for all Oklahomans.”

Brooks will assist the Democratic Caucus chair in helping set the legislative agenda for their caucus. He will also assist in setting the agenda for weekly caucus meetings and will oversee meetings in the chairman’s absence. Brooks will also help the Democratic Caucus with parliamentary procedures on the Senate floor.

Brooks also serves as the co-vice chair of the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting and as a member of the LOFT oversight committee. He will also sit on the Appropriations, Business and Commerce, Judiciary, Public Safety, and Retirement and Insurance Committees.

The legislative session will officially begin on Monday, Feb. 1. Proceedings can be viewed live on the Senate website at www.oksenate.gov.
