OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, issued the following statement after Wednesday’s vote on House Bill 3959, providing tens of millions of dollars in rebates for men’s professional sports.
“Sadly, the majority party failed to include women’s sports in the bill. Although I asked the author and colleagues across the aisle to support an amendment to include women’s sports, they were unwilling.
“Despite previous legislation that supporters claimed would protect women’s sports, we have failed to pass meaningful policy that would attract and support women’s professional teams in Oklahoma. In the future, I hope to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to create economic incentives to make Oklahoma equally welcoming to women’s sports, including pro basketball, softball, and soccer.”
