Boren selected as Oklahoma’s 2022 NCEL State Lead

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, has been selected as the 2022 National Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL) State Lead.

As Oklahoma’s NCEL State Lead, Boren will help coordinate relevant in-state events and grow the NCEL’s network of legislators to assist in advancing environmental issues in Oklahoma and beyond.

“It’s an incredible honor to become Oklahoma’s State Lead for the NCEL,” Boren said. “I'm looking forward to working with legislators from around the country to learn how Oklahoma can leverage our position as a large producer of energy with the increased demand for sustainable energy. Oklahoma can be an energy giant again if we embrace diversifying our portfolio in emerging markets. I’m also eager to share the ways Oklahoma has already worked to protect and conserve our state's precious resources."

Established in 1996, the NCEL is a nonprofit that organizes over 1,200 environmentally-committed state legislators from all 50 states and both major parties. The NCEL provides venues and opportunities for lawmakers to share ideas and collaborate on their environmental priorities while embedding notions of equity and justice every step of the way.
