State Sen. J.J. Dossett has been sworn in to continue his service on behalf of District 34 in the Oklahoma State Senate. Dossett was first elected in 2016 in a special election. A former history teacher and coach, Dossett won re-election to his first full four-year term earlier this month and took his oath of office in a ceremony at the state Capitol on Wednesday.

He was re-elected to the District 12 Senate in the November general election held last week. Leewright was first elected to the Senate in 2016 after serving two years in the House of Representatives. The Creek County Republican said he was honored to be returning to the Capitol.

The plaque given to Bergstrom recognizes the work the Adair Republican has done at the state capitol to help sheriff's offices across the state. Area Representatives Josh West and Kyle Hilbert were also presented with the award.

State Sen. James Leewright said a commission tasked with ensuring state agencies undergo performance audits is making good progress. Leewright authored legislation during the 2018 session mandating the audits. His bill was later merged with another similar measure and ultimately was signed into law by the governor.

Pemberton, who was elected to serve in the State Senate in 2016, has previously served as a member of the Senate Standing Committee for Education, as well as the Appropriations, Energy, and Agriculture & Wildlife committees. Pemberton said he’s looking forward to his new leadership role on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.
