State Sen. J.J. Dossett has been sworn in to continue his service on behalf of District 34 in the Oklahoma State Senate.  Dossett was first elected in 2016 in a special election.  A former history teacher and coach, Dossett won re-election to his first full four-year term earlier this month and took his oath of office in a ceremony at the state Capitol on Wednesday.

State Sen. James Leewright was sworn into office during a ceremony held Wednesday at the state Capitol.  He was re-elected to the District 12 Senate in the November general election held last week.  Leewright was first elected to the Senate in 2016 after serving two years in the House of Representatives. The Creek County Republican said he was honored to be returning to the Capitol.    

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Micheal Bergstrom was presented with the Oklahoma Legislative Award from the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Association on September 24. 

The plaque given to Bergstrom recognizes the work the Adair Republican has done at the state capitol to help sheriff's offices across the state.  Area Representatives Josh West and Kyle Hilbert were also presented with the award.

Oklahoma City – State Senator Adam Pugh announced today he has been appointed to serve on the 12-member Occupational Licensing Advisory Commission, which is set to have its first meeting next week.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) recognized Sen. Ron Sharp Thursday for his strong support of small businesses in Oklahoma during the 2018 legislative session.  read more.

State Sen. James Leewright said a commission tasked with ensuring state agencies undergo performance audits is making good progress.  Leewright authored legislation during the 2018 session mandating the audits.  His bill was later merged with another similar measure and ultimately was signed into law by the governor.

State Sen. Casey Murdock, Rep. Carl Newton and Rep. Mike Sanders are inviting citizens for a town hall meeting to be held in Woodward on Tuesday, September 25.  The meeting will be held from six to eight p.m. at the Woodward County Event Center at Crystal Beach 105A Temple Houston Drive.

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Senator Adam Pugh has been appointed to chair the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary.  Senate Pro Tempore-designate Greg Treat announced he tapped the Edmond Republican for the position last week.  

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Senator Dewayne Pemberton has been appointed to chair the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.  Senate Pro Tempore-designate Greg Treat announced he tapped the Muskogee Republican for the position last week. 

Pemberton, who was elected to serve in the State Senate in 2016, has previously served as a member of the Senate Standing Committee for Education, as well as the Appropriations, Energy, and Agriculture & Wildlife committees.  Pemberton said he’s looking forward to his new leadership role on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.

State Sen. James Leewright has been honored for his efforts to support law enforcement and better protect law-abiding citizens.  Leewright, R-Bristow, was given the Oklahoma Legislative Award this month, an honor awarded by the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association (OSA).
