Oklahoma Senate
2018 - OVERVIEW OF 2018 SESSION
Prior to the 2nd Session of the 56th Legislature, the Senate and House convened the 1st and 2nd Special Session of the 56th Legislature. Due to the funding shortfall resulting from the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s decision in Naifeh v. The State of Oklahoma (2017 OK 63), the Legislature needed to raise or cut spending by $215 million to balance the budget. The loss of this revenue primarily affected the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, and the Department of Human Services.
2019 - OVERVIEW OF 2019 SESSION
The Senate convened for the 1st Session of the 57th Legislature on January 8th, 2019, to adopt Senate rules governing the Session, certify the 2018 election results, and to elect a new President Pro Tempore. Sen. Greg Treat (2011-Present) was unanimously elected. Following the President Pro Tempore election, Sen. Kim David was named the Majority Floor Leader and Sen. Kay Floyd was named as the Minority Floor Leader. The Senate adopted the rules and members were appointed to standing committees of the Senate.

About the Senator
Paul proudly served our country for 25 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E9/Navy’s highest enlisted rank). For nearly ten years, Paul was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, where he served in Strategic Communications Wing ONE in support of their fleet of E-6B aircraft.
About the Senator
Brenda Stanley grew up in Duluth, Georgia. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Georgia College and has a Master of Education degree from the University of Georgia.
While teaching in Oklahoma, she completed her degree in Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma. Brenda was a public school teacher and principal for 43 years until her retirement in 2016.
About the Senator
Dave is extremely honored to serve District 39 as 47 of his 63 years have been lived within the boundaries of the District. From his elementary school years at Benjamin Franklin, through Woodrow Wilson Junior High, and then graduating from Will Rogers High School (it was there he met Janet), Dave has always been proud to call himself a Tulsan.
About the Senator
Elected in 2018, state Senator Darrell Weaver of Moore represents Senate District 24. He is the only Senator to serve as the former Director of a state agency. Commissioned as an Agent with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics in 1987, he held various assignments throughout the state. In September of 2006, he was appointed Director of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control and retired after serving the Bureau for 28 years. In 2014, Senator Weaver was inducted into the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall Of Fame.
About the Senator
Senator Lonnie Paxton is a fifth-generation Oklahoman, born in Chickasha and raised on his family’s farm in Tuttle. Senator Paxton’s roots run deep in his district as a businessman, entrepreneur, volunteer firefighter, farmer and rancher.

As a second-generation farmer and educator, Roland Pederson is a man of faith, integrity, and family—values he lives out in his daily life. He has spent the majority of his professional life, together with his wife Terry, building a family farm business that his Danish immigrant father began near Burlington. For the past 40 years, they have primarily produced cattle, wheat, and alfalfa.
