The Senate has approved a measure aimed at reducing injuries and deaths of children and teens due to ATV accidents. Sen. Bernest Cain is the author of Senate Bill 30, which would require all riders under the age of to wear a helmet.
The bottom line here is we can save lives in Oklahoma with this simple precaution, said Cain, DOklahoma City. Wearing helmets while riding ATVs can reduce deaths by 2 percent and it can reduce nonfatal head injuries by percent.
The evenly divided Oklahoma Senate voted Thursday to send a bipartisan, comprehensive lawsuit reform bill to Gov. Brad Henrys desk. The Senate passed Senate Bill 0, authored by Sen. Cliff Branan, ROklahoma City, on a bipartisan 2 to 23 vote. The bills supporters praised the passage of the historic legislation. Four years ago Gov. Henry promised to bring Texas Plus tort reform to Oklahoma.

LaDonna Heintzelman wanted the right to wear a button with her sons picture during the trial of the man accused of his murder. State Sen. Jim Reynolds said the Midwest City mother will have that right. Thats after Senate Bill , known as Taylors Law was signed by Gov. Brad Henry on Wednesday. The bill was named for Heintzelmans son.

Governor Brad Henry has signed Senate Bill 2 into law. Senator Jay Paul Gumm is the principal author the legislation which would require the governor to order flags on state property to be flown at halfstaff on the day of the memorial service for Oklahomans who are killed in combat. In addition, all state agencies, interested organizations, groups and individuals would be authorized and requested to fly the flag at half staff. The director of the Department of Central Services is charged with implementing the new law.
read more.On Thursday, the Senate Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs held its fourth and final meeting studying the states seven veterans centers. Sen. Frank Simpson, who requested the study, said he was pleased by the insight gained from veterans, their families, center staff and members of the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs as well as the War Veterans Commission and the many others who testified at the meetings.
