Oklahoma became the first state in the nation to recognize Women in Aviation and Aerospace Day when legislation was approved this spring. Sen. Paul Scott was the author of Senate Bill 230 creating the day to commemorate one of the state’s most popular industries.

“Oklahoma has a long, colorful history in aviation and women have played a major role in shaping that history,” said Scott, R-Duncan. “Women’s role in aviation needs to be celebrated and our young women today need to be introduced to this exciting industry and career opportunity.”

Each year, millions in untaxed money is wired out of the United States to other countries including from Oklahoma. The Senate Appropriations Committee approved Senate Bill 547 Wednesday to charge a fee on international wire transactions for individuals who do not present valid personal identification. Sen. Paul Scott, the principal author, said he filed the legislation to reduce the number of undocumented immigrants sending money out of the state as well as address drug money being funneled to other countries.

Legislation was filed Thursday to strengthen Oklahoma’s Heartbeat Informed Consent Act by providing a scientific definition of when life begins, with the first heartbeat. Sen. Paul Scott, R-Duncan, filed Senate Bill 710 to prohibit abortions if the embryonic or fetal heartbeat of the unborn child is audible.

Sen. Paul Rosino, R-Oklahoma City, commented Tuesday on the Oklahoma ACES (Aerospace Commerce Economic Services) Programs first year and its many accomplishments. Rosino was the principal Senate author of House Bill 2578 in 2018 creating the state aerospace program.

OKLAHOMA CITY The Chairs of the Oklahoma Legislative Veterans Caucus want to invite their fellow veterans and Oklahomans to Perry Wednesday morning to give a World War II veteran a proper military funeral. Herman White, a Navy veteran, passed away earlier this month with no surviving family. Sen. Paul Rosino, a 25-year retired Navy veteran, and Rep. Jay Steagall, a retired Air Force veteran, are joining Brown-Dugger Funeral Home and the citizens of Perry in asking Oklahomans to attend the veterans funeral or honor him in other ways.

Sen. Paul Rosino applauded the legislature this week for approving funding to further boost the state’s growing aerospace industry. The budget included increased resources for the Aerospace Commerce Economic Services (ACES) Program, which was created through legislation by the retired Navy veteran and signed into law in 2018.

Beginning next year, notary publics will be able to certify electronic documents following legislation unanimously approved Thursday by the Senate. Authored by Sen. Paul Rosino, R-Oklahoma City, and Rep. Chris Kannady, R-Oklahoma City, Senate Bill 915 creates the Remote Online Notary (RON) Act.

The Senate approved legislation Tuesday to provide financial relief to certain state employees who are required to work overtime. Sen. Paul Rosino (R-Oklahoma City) is the Senate principal author of House Bill 2465 that beginning January 1, 2020, will require all state employees making less than $31,000 annually to receive overtime pay rather than comp time for all hours worked over 40 per week.

Many of Oklahoma’s disabled veterans do not have anyone to help them make critical decisions concerning their finances, health and other personal affairs. Now these heroes will have court-appointed, trained volunteers available to assist them thanks to legislation signed into law Thursday.
