State Sen. Roger Thompson has been selected to represent the Oklahoma State Senate with another national appointment. Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Schulz has chosen Thompson to serve on the Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) of the Council of State Governments (CSG).

The SLC includes the states of Alabama; Arkansas; Florida; Georgia; Kentucky; Louisiana; Mississippi; Missouri; Oklahoma; North Carolina; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; Virginia; and West Virginia.

State Sen. Roger Thompson said he and other legislative and state leaders successfully worked with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) to give the first across-the-board reimbursement rate increases since 2009. Long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes will receive a four percent increase, while other Soonercare (Oklahoma Medicaid) providers, including hospitals, will receive a three percent increase. The rate increases are expected to go into effect on October 1.

State Sen. Roger Thompson said the end to an effort to repeal education funding was great news for Oklahoma schools and for the entire state.

The State Supreme Court ruled in June that the petition to repeal increases in cigarette, fuel and energy taxes was deeply flawed and said the ballot title was misleading. The court also said required information about legislation the petition was seeking to repeal left out required material. Under the ruling the group, which was led by former U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, had until July 18 to circulate a new petition. read more.

State Senator Roger Thompson has again been asked to share his expertise on creating sound, conservative fiscal policy with his appointment to the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Budgets and Revenue Committee.

State Sen. Roger Thompson has been appointed to a national task force examining local and state revenues. Oklahoma State Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Schulz nominated Thompson to serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures Task Force on State and Local Taxation.

Sen. Micheal Bergstrom, R-Adair, recently met with community leaders and constituents ahead of the upcoming legislative session at the annual Eucha Breakdown.

“This is a great opportunity for those of us in elected positions to meet with constituents, share our experiences and plans and hear what’s on the mind of those we serve,” Bergstrom said.

The event was held at the Eucha Community Center and drew a crowd from the surrounding areas.

Roger Thompson said he was humbled to receive an award from the Oklahoma Farm Bureau (OKFB) for his support of issues important to farmers, ranchers and rural Oklahoma during the 2016 session. Thompson was presented with an OKFB 100 Percent Club coin symbolizing his 100 percent voting record on legislation the organization identified as critical to their mission of supporting agricultural and rural communities.

OSBI honors Sen. Thompson

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has honored State Sen. Roger Thompson for his efforts in the Legislature to support the crime investigation agency. OSBI Director Stan Florence presented Thompson with the 2016 OSBI Director’s Award during a ceremony held in Norman on December 13.

Thompson said he was humbled that his efforts were honored by the agency.
