On the heels of record voter turnout nationally for the 2020 election, Oklahoma ranked last in the country in voter turnout rate. To combat this statistic, Sen. Julia Kirt filed a trio of election bills to boost voter registration and participation in the state.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Sen. Paul Rosino, R-Oklahoma City, has filed legislation to prohibit discrimination against a potential organ transplant recipient based solely on the person’s physical or mental disability.  Rosino said Senate Bill 378, creating Everett’s Law, was requested by Edmond parents Rhys and Neely Gay.  Their middle child, Everett, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome shortly after he was born.  He also had a congenital heart defect.

Sen. J.J. Dossett, D-Owasso, and Rep. Mark Vancuren, R-Owasso, are inviting citizens to attend an upcoming town hall meeting on redistricting.  The town hall will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Tulsa Technology Center’s Sycamore Room, 10800 North 140 East Avenue in Owasso.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Sen. David Bullard, R-Durant, has filed legislation to improve transparency and access to legal and government meeting notices. Senate Bill 254 would require legal notices and meeting notices of government proceedings to be published online.

The state Department of Education (SDE) shared its FY’22 budget request of $2.41 billion, an increase of $110.8 million over its FY’21 budget, to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education Monday. Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, is a member of the committee and released the following statement regarding the agency’s budget request.

A stretch of road on U.S. Highway 259 near the state line in McCurtain County has been slated as a future construction project under the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s eight-year plan.

A release from the Broken Bow Lake spillway is scheduled to take place from Jan. 12-20, according to state Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard. The release will allow for the continued reduction in the lake level.
