OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Kay Floyd, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement after officially beginning her third term as Senate Democratic Leader. 

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Micheal Bergstrom, R-Adair, has filed Senate Bill 108 to help communities confront the growing issue of illegal drugs in Oklahoma while at the same time providing options for those who are trapped by addiction.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Kevin Matthews has been elected by his fellow members to serve another term as chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus. This will mark Matthews’ third term in the leadership post. As chair, Matthews will organize and preside over caucus meetings and help identify issues and legislation of importance to his fellow members.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, has filed multiple pieces of legislation aimed at improving higher education in Oklahoma.

“As university students return to school this week, we must do everything we can to protect them from rising costs due to administrative bloat and ensure our state universities provide an education worthy of the cost,” Dahm said.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Joe Newhouse, R-Tulsa, filed legislation to allow certified copies of county land records to be signed, notarized and recorded electronically.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Micheal Bergstrom, R-Adair, has filed Senate Bill 44 to require high schools across the state to provide remediation courses for students scoring below subject-area benchmarks on tests like the ACT or SAT.

“Unfortunately, a large portion of our young people who graduate high school and opt for college end up having to take remedial courses and pay tuition for classes they passed in high school,” said Bergstrom.

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Senate Tuesday re-elected Sen. Greg Treat as president pro tempore and adopted rules for the upcoming 59^th legislative session that begins February 6.

Today’s vote marks the fifth consecutive session that Treat will serve in this leadership role. Senate members also approved rules for the 59^th Legislature and approved committee membership.

The votes came during the Senate’s organizational day, a constitutional requirement of both the state House and Senate before the start of each two-year session.

OKLAHOMA CITY –Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, has filed three pieces of legislation to protect Oklahoma drivers from unnecessary headaches on the road.

Senate Bill 82 would prohibit law enforcement entities from requiring officers, justices, or judges to fulfill traffic citation quotas.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, has filed legislation requiring school districts to inform teachers of their First Amendment rights and obtain reauthorization every year before deducting union dues from teachers’ paychecks.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, filed legislation on Thursday to protect public and private Christmas Nativity displays.

“As we look forward to celebrating Christmas with our families in the coming days, we must protect time honored traditions in our state,” Dahm said. “One of these traditions is the display of nativity scenes representing the birth of Christ.”
