OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Brenda Stanley, R- Midwest City, on Thursday hosted an interim study to explore how the state can improve care for our nation’s heroes.  

Stanley, chair of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, invited officials from the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs and the Oklahoma Veterans Commission to discuss veterans’ needs and explore how the state can provide additional support.

Oklahoma is home to more than 275,000 veterans.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Nikki Nice presented an interim study Thursday to the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee on providing a benefit to help Oklahoma National Guard members cover the cost of a memorial marker. Nice advocated for the creation of a revolving fund to help families with the cost of a headstone or marker.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Jo Anna Dossett, D-Tulsa, led an interim study in the Senate’s Veterans and Military Affairs Committee exploring Oklahoma’s response to veteran suicide. The study convened an expert on state-level responses across the nation, as well as two in-state experts on veteran mental health and suicide prevention.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Kristen Thompson, R-Edmond, is celebrating Harold Hamm’s historic $150 million investment in the University of Oklahoma and the future of healthcare in Oklahoma.

In recognition of his extraordinary generosity, OU’s Health Campus in Oklahoma City will be renamed the Harold Hamm Health Campus at the University of Oklahoma.

As an OU alumna, Thompson said she is especially proud to see her alma mater receive such a transformative investment that will strengthen healthcare education, research and innovation in Oklahoma.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Senate leaders today celebrated a historic $150 million gift from Harold Hamm to improve healthcare across Oklahoma.

The University of Oklahoma announced the OU Health Campus in Oklahoma City will be renamed the Harold Hamm Health Campus at the University of Oklahoma following the largest single gift in university history.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Julia Kirt is continuing her work to address Oklahoma’s shortage of affordable housing. Kirt presented a study on land banks on Tuesday at the state Capitol. Land banks could give cities and counties a way to repair and reuse abandoned or run-down properties and get them productive in private hands again.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Avery Frix, R-Muskogee, held an interim study Tuesday examining how properties developed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program are valued for property tax purposes and how Oklahoma can ensure its tax policies don't unnecessarily drive up the cost of housing.

The LIHTC program, also known as Section 42, provides federal tax credits to developers to help finance rental housing. In exchange, properties are subject to long-term restrictions on rents and tenant eligibility.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Roland Pederson, R-Burlington, held an interim study Tuesday to hear recommendations from state agency leaders on how to make a new law preventing foreign adversaries from owning land in this state more targeted and enforceable.

Pederson invited officials from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce to present suggestions for clarifying and strengthening Senate Bill 893, which will take effect July 1, 2027, at his interim study before the Senate Economic Development, Workforce and Tourism Committee.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senator Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, on Monday hosted an interim study examining the potential dangers of artificial intelligence to children and ways to better protect young Oklahomans as AI becomes increasingly prevalent in society.
