NORMAN — Sen. Lisa Standridge today issued the following comments on yet another Operation SAFE sweep of an illegal encampment along Reed Avenue near downtown Norman as state and local officials continue working to address the ongoing public safety concerns surrounding this property.
Standridge, R-Norman, said the priority must remain a firm commitment to public safety while the state-owned property is cleared and kept free from future illegal encampments.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Julia Kirt issued the following statement after the governor issued an executive order calling for an investigation into the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as well as another organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, to determine if they have terrorist ties.

2026 - OVERVIEW OF 2026 SESSION
The 2nd Session of the 60th Oklahoma Legislature began with the Governor calling for a variety of reforms relating to Medicaid expansion, property tax relief, and repealing or restricting medical marijuana use in the state. The Legislature promptly began to consider methods to provide property tax relief as well as shift Medicaid expansion from the Oklahoma Constitution to statutes. The Senate and House of Representatives passed SJR 39 to submit the issue of property tax relief to a vote of the people.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, said a $598,000 grant approved by the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust’s (TSET) Board of Directors for Reaves Park will benefit thousands of families in Norman, and points to the importance of the agency’s ability to award those funds without interference from politicians.

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Sen. Mark Mann issued the following statement praising the commitment and leadership of Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Board of Education Chair Paula Lewis. Mann, D-Oklahoma City, served with Lewis for seven years before being elected to the Senate. Lewis announced her resignation this week after purchasing a home outside of the OKCPS boundaries, which meant she is no longer eligible to serve.
