OKLAHOMA CITY – While Oklahoma has one of the highest active and retired military populations in the nation, it has been ranked as one of the least tax-friendly states for military retirees. Sen. Adam Pugh, R-Edmond, believes one way to help make Oklahoma more attractive to military veterans is to eliminate the income tax on their retirement. With Senate Bill 401, Oklahoma would join 30 other states in exempting military retirement from state income tax.
On the heels of record voter turnout nationally for the 2020 election, Oklahoma ranked last in the country in voter turnout rate. To combat this statistic, Sen. Julia Kirt filed a trio of election bills to boost voter registration and participation in the state.

Sen. J.J. Dossett, D-Owasso, and Rep. Mark Vancuren, R-Owasso, are inviting citizens to attend an upcoming town hall meeting on redistricting. The town hall will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Tulsa Technology Center’s Sycamore Room, 10800 North 140 East Avenue in Owasso.
OKLAHOMA CITY - Sen. David Bullard, R-Durant, has filed legislation to improve transparency and access to legal and government meeting notices. Senate Bill 254 would require legal notices and meeting notices of government proceedings to be published online.
The state Department of Education (SDE) shared its FY’22 budget request of $2.41 billion, an increase of $110.8 million over its FY’21 budget, to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education Monday. Sen. Mary Boren, D-Norman, is a member of the committee and released the following statement regarding the agency’s budget request.
A stretch of road on U.S. Highway 259 near the state line in McCurtain County has been slated as a future construction project under the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s eight-year plan.
A release from the Broken Bow Lake spillway is scheduled to take place from Jan. 12-20, according to state Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard. The release will allow for the continued reduction in the lake level.
State Sens. Brent Howard and Darcy Jech invite citizens across western Oklahoma to participate in Oklahoma’s redistricting process by attending the Senate-sponsored town hall meeting in Clinton on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
